Step 4: Can an OBD2 scanner reset TPMS? The honest answer
Every tire rotation or seasonal wheel swap brings this question. The honest answer is: it depends, and a lot of people buy the wrong tool because a cheap OBD2 code reader can't do a job it was never designed for.
Start with the type of system in the vehicle. TPMS has been required on U.S. passenger vehicles since the 2008 model year under NHTSA FMVSS 138, but not all systems work the same way. Direct TPMS uses a pressure sensor inside each wheel. Indirect TPMS doesn't; it monitors wheel speed to estimate when a tire is low.
The 2014 Honda Civic uses indirect TPMS. After you correct the tire pressures to the numbers on the door placard, you don't need an OBD2 scanner at all. You just press and hold the TPMS reset button on the lower part of the dash, and then drive for a few minutes. If the TPMS light stays on or blinks, that means something else is wrong. For direct systems, a generic OBD2 scan tool that only talks to the engine control module cannot command the TPMS sensors. Clearing a TPMS trouble code after an actual malfunction isn't the same as resetting the sensors, either.
So don't buy an OBD2 scanner based only on a product page that says 'TPMS reset.' Check that it lists TPMS service and verify it covers your vehicle's make and model. And if the TPMS light came on because a tire is genuinely low, no scanner on earth will fix that. You have to add air first.
Step 5: Set up crew communication while you're at it
When you're equipping a vehicle for field work, the gear list doesn't end with the dash cam. Our techs spent two years using smartphones and a push-to-talk app. The app worked until the phone locked itself or the connection dropped in the middle of a conversation. That's when we tested US Cellular walkie talkie phones—the push-to-talk type with a dedicated button. They are not regular two-way radios; they use cellular for the connection, but the one-button operation makes them far safer in a vehicle.
We run them on a US Cellular business account because our job sites sit in areas where that carrier's coverage is solid. You have to test this for yourself. If your sites are in a carrier dead zone, a walkie talkie phone won't fix that, because push-to-talk over cellular still depends on the network. Ask for trial devices and drive the actual routes before you commit.
And if your existing two-way radios already cover the sites you work, you may not need PTT phones at all. We kept our old radios for a couple of sites and use the phones for the rest. It doesn't have to be either/or.
Step 6: Do the final checks before reinstalling the trim
One of my bigger regrets from earlier installs is handing a vehicle back without proving the dash cam actually records. The solution is a short pre-delivery test.

Use a high-endurance microSD card and format it inside the dash cam before the first drive. Cheap cards and dash cams don't mix, and formatting in the camera avoids most file system weirdness.
After the camera is mounted and wired, switch the ignition off and confirm parking mode starts. If the model supports motion detection, wait a minute and walk past the vehicle, then check that an event file was created. If nothing saves, your power wiring or motion settings are wrong. Fixing it now is much cheaper than pulling the trim apart later.
Also remove the plastic film from the lens before you mount it. Yes, I'm serious. I once installed a full system and the footage looked like it was filmed through wax paper. The customer's install tech found the film.
Take a photo of the wiring before you put panels back. Every time I skipped that step, I spent an extra hour tracing a wire after something shifted during reassembly.
